The Board of Directors of the Scientific Research Council (SRC) seeks to recruit an EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR to serve as Accountable Officer who will be responsible for the following:

• To provide visionary leadership and direction to the organization, and to ensure that the Council’s policies and mandates are implemented fully and effectively in line with its strategic plan.
• To ensure that resources are managed prudently for the implementation and achievement of the Council’s mandates and strategic objectives.
• To ensure that the strategic plans are achieved efficiently, performance contract objectives and targets are negotiated, achieved and reported in a timely manner, and the annual corporate and operational plans and budgets prepared and submitted timely.
• To direct and oversee the development and implementation of research, innovations and capacity building agenda, in line with the goals and aspirations of Government of Jamaica’s science, technology & innovation strategic plans.
• To initiate, establish, strengthen and oversee inter-institutional collaborations and strategic partnerships for the realization of the Council’s mandates and strategic objectives.
• To ensure that staff remains motivated to discharge their responsibilities effectively and efficiently, and in compliance with human resource policies and practices.
• To establish and sustain effective relationships with the Board of Directors, the Government, parent Ministry, other stakeholders, regulatory bodies, collaborators, funding agencies, the media, and staff for the benefit of the Council.
• To support a culture of compliance with regulations, good corporate governance and best practices in the Council.
• To perform any other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Board of Directors, in line with the Council’s mandates.

 

Key Qualifications and Competence:

• A Natural Sciences research scientist with doctoral level qualifications (PhD degree or equivalent) from a recognized institution, and at least five (5) years managerial experience at a senior level. A Masters Degree in Business Administration/General Management is an asset.
• Knowledge of existing Government Of Jamaica (GOJ) Financial Management, Procurement Regulations and Policies that govern entities in the Research category.
• Strategic management experience and negotiation skills.

The successful candidate will be engaged on a three- year contract renewable subject to performance.
