”Use Less, Save More, Go Green” was the theme of an Energy Conservation Fair hosted in Independence Square on Friday.  Despite the inclement weather, hundreds visited the exhibition during the course of the day.  WINN FM spoke with Energy Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Asim Martin at the Fair about government policies and initiatives to encourage residents to ‘go green.’

The big draw Friday was sponsor, the SIDF’s Electricity Subsidy calculation chart, that allowed consumers to calculate the savings they will realize with the Fund picking up the tab for the fuel charge and a portion of the current bill for many households.

Homeowners using 250KW of electricity per month will realize a decrease in their electricity bills as of the next billing cycle.  CEO of the SIDF Terrance Crossman spoke to WINN FM Friday about the subsidy that will see the fuel surcharge removed from an estimated 55% of consumers, and a portion of those using less than 200KW per month will see a further drop when their current usage charges are cut in half.
