Saint Lucia’s Street Lighting Project

In April 2012, the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Energy, Science and Technology in collaboration with the Ministry of Infrastructure, Port Services & Transport and Saint Lucia Electricity Services Ltd (LUCELEC) has embarked on an LED Street Lighting Pilot Project forSaint Lucia. The project, which received EC $ 100,000, is expected to last for one year in the first instance, bringing it to an end in March 2013. Cognizant of the fact that the maintenance of street lights is a critical and expensive responsibility for the Saint Lucia Government and thatSaint Luciais keen on promoting the use of efficient energy lighting systems, it was fitting that this project be undertaken at this time. This project will help the Government of Saint Lucia realize savings in public expenditure in an area of high energy consumption. It is also geared towards upgrading the existing quality of street lighting in critical areas, through the introduction of LED bulbs.
