In Belize, OLADE’s national workshop was held in Belize City from July 25 to 29, 2011, attended by 15 participants from major institutions such as Belize Electricity Limited, Public Utilities Commission, Department of Environment, Belcogen, Forest Department , Statistical Institute of Belize, among others. The event was held with the support from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Belize, through the coordination of the focal point of OLADE in Belize, Paul Flowers, and his staff made up of Marlon Westby, Leticia Garnett and Sulma Gonzales. The official launching of the SIEN Belize will be on October 24, 2011.
In Suriname, 38 people were trained in the workshop which resulted in the development of its National Balance. This workshop was considered one of the goals of the government of the member country. The event took place from August 29 to September 2, 2011 in Paramaribo at the Torarica’s hotel. It was inaugurated by the Minister of Natural Resources, Jim Hok, and OLADE’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Victorio Oxilia. Additionally, it was attended by prominent members of the cabinet of the vice presidency, National Assembly members, senior officials from various ministries and specialists from related institutions of the energy sector such as: Staatsolie, Energiebedrijven Suriname, among others. The coordination of the event was performed by the SIEE Advisor in Suriname, Angelie Yorks, in collaboration with Madhawi Ramdin, Manager of Energy Policies and planning of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Suriname. The SIEN Suriname will be officially launched on the internet on March 5, 2012.
At the end of the workshop, the countries obtained as direct products: the National Energy Balance 2010, GHG inventories2010, the formation of a preliminary energy information committee and an action plan to meet the proposed objectives and goals during the workshops. OLADE’s technicians remain in contact with officials of the Member Countries for technical assistance.
