The first solar energy factory in the OECS, the Taiwanese Speedtech Energy Co. Ltd was launched at the Industrial Site on St. Kitts Monday.
General Manager of Speedtech Energy Co, Mr. Lucas Chiu delivered opening remarks at the in a simple ceremony attended by investors and top government and private sector officials.
“The total amount of our investment from the beginning reach up to one million US dollars,” Mr. Chiu told the gathering.
Including management team from Taiwan, Mr. Chiu said the company expected to have 40-50 employees. He said the company intended to expand its marketing into the region.
The G.M. said he sincerely hoped that the establishment of the factory in St. Kitts and Nevis would help locals to become more knowledgeable about solar energy, as well as bring benefits and to the county.

He said the company has 15 years experience worldwide and specializes in design and manufacturing of solar energy saving applications and power solutions.
“We plan to have here as a hub, to export out solar panels or diverse solar applications to other Caribbean countries before the end of the year,” Mr. Chiu said.
He said local staff would be carefully selected and extensively trained in the field of solar energy.
