HAVANA (PL) — Cuba is celebrating World Water Day with its immersion in collaborative projects with other countries and international organizations, to solve problems in the management of water resources.
The country has the help of UN agencies and other countries, said Vladimir Cabranes Alpizar, of the International Relations Department at the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INRH).
2013 is an important year for the institution because more than 30 projects with international assistance and rehabilitation are being developed, such as work in supply networks in provincial capitals and other communities, the engineer said.
For the development of the new national water strategy, financing is required and this is obtained from assistance projects in other countries and the support of organizations such as the United Nations Children’s Fund, which has an important social impact, said INRH vice president Aymee Aguirre.
World Water Day has been celebrated every March 22 since 1993, in accordance with recommendations from the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, which includes an accord to promote sustainable development.
