Cuba Promotes Alternative Energy

Cuban authorities are promoting the use of alternative energy for power generation to make better use of the country’s resources.

As part of that strategy, the fourth wind park in the country is under construction in the eastern Cuban province of Holguín.

The facility will generate 4.5 megawatts and will have six Goldwind S-50 machines.

After construction of the park is completed, the power generation in the municipality of Gibara will increase to 9.6 megawatts, so that region will be Cuba’s major power generator from renewable sources.

Studies carried out in the country showed that conditions exist to generate power from wind energy in more than 30 zones, including eight areas in eastern Cuba.
